What are the SDGs
The SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) are international objectives aimed at creating a better society, established in the “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” adopted at the UN Summit in September 2015. The agenda includes a pledge to “leave no one behind” and consists of 17 goals, 169 targets, and 232 indicators. The SDGs are universal and apply not only to developing countries but also to developed nations, including Japan, which is actively engaged in these efforts.
Additionally, Kitakyushu City has been designated as an “SDGs Future City” and a “Local Government SDGs Model Project” by the national government. Based on the second phase of the “Kitakyushu City SDGs Future City Plan,” various stakeholders, including citizens, businesses, organizations, schools, and government, are collaborating on initiatives. To support this integrated effort, the Kitakyushu SDGs mark was created, symbolizing the convergence of diverse entities in 17 colors, representing the SDGs goals, to foster innovation and address social issues beyond existing frameworks.
